Tasmania is home to the first 19th century concert organ installed outside the UK - the historic instrument now in the Albert Hall, Launceston; ANZCO was founded on the 150th Anniversary of the opening of that record-breaking instrument in 1861.

Like the rest of Australia, most of Tasmania's pipe organs are found in the state's largest cities: Hobart and Launceston; the large instruments in the Hobart Town Hall and St John's Church, Launceston are especially renowned.

The state is also rich with smaller instruments exported from Britain in the 19th century, including one of Australia's oldest pipe organs dating from 1824.
