Arwen Hur is a GP in Melbourne who started playing the organ again 3 years ago after a hiatus of more than 20 years. She learnt to play the piano and organ as a teenager but other interests had taken over until she heard about an organ software, Hauptwerk, which was installed at her home.
She had lessons with Mr TMP Van der Ven and Ms Annette Goerke in Perth and Jennifer Chou in Melbourne.
Last year she attended masterclasses in Europe with Prof J Van Oortmerssen in Amsterdam, playing on the Muller organ at Waalse Kerk. In France she studied with Erwin Wiersinga and William Whitehead playing on the Cavaille Coll organ in Poligny, and Aubertin organ at St Antoine l'Abbaye.
She has given recitals at various churches in Melbourne and also plays for services at Ringwood Lutheran Church. With her children, she has played Haydn and Beethoven Piano Trios in concert.
Her two teenage boys as well as her community garden plot keep her busy apart from her work as a GP and playing the organ.
St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral run a number of music concerts and events throughout the year.
