JAMES THIELE
(1930–1997)

The South Australian organist James Barnabas Thiele was Organist of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Adelaide, for nearly 50 years from 1948 until his death in 1997.

He was significant for the development of the Lutheran Hymnal in Australia, after the union of the two different Lutheran traditions.

James B. Thiele had a profound influence on organ playing and church music in the Lutheran tradition in South Australia for half a century.
